He gave first hand accounts of what he did. And Publishers Weekly is a progressive publication. Scary. Why would he make things up that risk his own life in the process. Jesus. It only adds to the scope of how big this kind of thing is.
It might have saved Gore some votes if the public knew more about what Bush 1 was up to during his presidency or who Cheney really was. By then the corporatocracy was already planning their exploitation of the situation. Or hell even before the dumbass Bush was elected President. It would be fascinating to hear more of the actual numbers involved in all of these shady deals, not to mention the fortune that John raked in as an EHM. Too little too late if you ask me. Everyone in the world should know the information in this book and be appalled. I don't think it was enough to merely confess about his morally unjust actions, if liberation of his burden was what he really wanted he should also give ALL the money back to the countries he pillaged. It is just a shame that Perkins waited until after 9/11 happened to write this confession.
John Perkins explains it. Almost daily on the news a foreigner is telling us to stay out of the business of his country. Perkins could explain the US immigration policy so succinctly. This book answers so many questions, mainly about why the rest of the world 'hates' us.Now if only Mr. But from what I read in the newspapers, all we do is send them massive amounts of aid and build their infrastructure. So what's the problem.
It is balanced and straight-forward without falling into the trap of judging or blaming. But the lessons are not limited to the US. And once you've read this, it's worth continuing with his follow up books.
I have had reason to study the history of the Ecuador, and with John Perkins' story the pieces of the puzzle fall into place - as they do with many other events around the globe where Perkins has been involved. From my Scandinavian perspective, the story makes sense and I can easily apply his conclusions on my own part of the world; Swedish banks are trying to carry out their own little empire.In the end, Perkins' book becomes more than a testimony and a captivating story. In my eyes, he appears to be a true patriot who wants the US to stay true to its founding principles that once made it a global role model.
"Confessions of an Economic Hit Man" by John Perkins is one of two books I recommend to anyone that wants to get a more comprehensive understanding of what's going on behind the scene of the globalization (the other one is Ellen Brown's Web of Debt). It is not another conspiracy theory, rather an effort to mirror a complex reality full of contradictions but where some patterns of hidden control, manipulation and abuse on a global scale can still be discerned and challenged.I have myself a strong relationship to Ecuador, whose process of becoming a debt slave to the "American empire" is depicted in the book. It is writing at its best; When the healing process of one man provides something of value for everyone.
His story is a testimony that could only have been written by one who was really there, in the midst of the events - that's the integrity of it. Nothing added and nothing taken away, and yet as captivating and breathtaking as a thriller.
Maybe he is doing that now, and definately I believe his life story. His book can lead to a loss of patriotism and lack of faith in gov't and people as happened in Russia during Glasnost and the Yelstin era. He is a has-been, and should be safe now. The Russians and other nations have long known what America is about. He is making great money, I'm sure now. Great book to show the roadmap of American politics and business, the constant blatant self-interest of a few very influential or/and rich.
The damage is done and new tactics are in the air. What good are confessions to the church, make them to the priest and go after the sins. But the author is late. Plus he also has a cultic intrest-astral travel books that sound even scarier than his previous involvment. Americans themselves simply live in denial. He should have come out many years earlier.
But many people suffered by his hand.
